Most of the people think that they can store unlimited data in Outlook application but it is just a misconception as Outlook’s PST file size is limited to 2GB only and whenever its PST size come closure or goes beyond this limit the PST file gets corrupted or becomes inaccessible. Actually the size of the PST file greatly depends on the file format that it uses. There are namely two PST file formats i.e. ANSI and Unicode. Since MS Outlook 2002 application uses the ANSI file format its size is limited to 2GB which can not be extended. That’s the reason why most of the issue of the PST file occurs with MS Outlook 2002.
Let’s consider an example where when user will try to move or delete any folder from MS Outlook application they encounter very common error message similar to the below mentioned one –
“Cannot move the items. The folder is full.”
This error message clearly indicates that the PST file of MS Outlook application is oversized and it needs to be reduced. There are some methods which can be used to perform this task like deletion of unwanted and useless data or mails from the PST file, using auto-compaction feature of Outlook to reduce the PST file size and so on. But these methods are not that effective so the best option is to split the oversized PST using Split PST File software. This tool will effectively split the larger PST file into several smaller ones as per the users convenience.
