Backup is simply best for preventing the file corruption and data loss. You can restore the data from backup in a very easy way. In Windows Vista Backup Status and Configuration tool can be used to make the backup of the important data. But this tool can prove troublesome for the Microsoft Outlook. If you try to restore the PST file from the backup then the file will not open or access. In such situation you require outlook PST repair to solve the problem.
When you try to open the Pst file you may get this error message: “<FileName>.pst file could not be opened. The file may not be compatible with this version of Outlook or it may be corrupted.”

Then double-click the Scanpst.exe. Then write file name and the path in the Enter the name of the file you want to scan box. Then click the Start and when the Scanpst.exe finishes, then click the OK button.
In many cases this method works but it has also some limitations. In case of the large PST file it can’t scan and can’t repair. In that case you can use third party applications which can easily repair the large PST files.
