Can’t import and Scanpst fails to recognize PST file

MS Outlook’s PST file is often moved and copied to external storage media like DVD, CD etc. so that it can be restored later. During this process it is recommended to keep the MS Outlook application close otherwise the PST file might gets corrupted. Scanpst.exe tool is used to repair the damaged PST file but the PST file size should be below 2GB. But there are situations encountered where this tool has failed to repair the corrupted PST file and you need to import the PST file in order to access it.

Let’s consider a realistic scenario where MS Outlook copies the Outlook PST file to the CD and later reinstalled a new hard drive. After that user have replaced the newly created PST file with the one which is copied to the CD. But when user tried to access the PST through MS Outlook the application doesn’t recognize the PST file. When the saved PST is imported it gives an error message that says that the file is not valid personal folder. This behavior from the PST file clearly indicates the PST corruption.

To rectify this issue and repair PST file when Scanpst tool is used it came with an error message which says –

The Inbox Repair Tool does not recognize the file file_path.pst. No information can be recovered ”.

So, now the only way to rectify these issues and to repair PST files any third party PST Repair software needs to be used. The tool will thoroughly scan the entire PST file and look for all the bugs and rectifies it efficiently.
