CRC Errors in MS Outlook 2007

CRC stands for Cyclic Redundancy Check . It is an error checking code that is used by MS Outlook 2007 as well as by other Windows application. While opening any particular PST file in MS Outlook you can encounter CRC errors. The errors tell us that the specified PST file is corrupted and you cannot access the data from that file.

Some of the commonly displayed error messages are:

  • File Path\filename.pst cannot be accessed
  • Data Error (cycle redundancy check)
  • Error 0×80040116

Reason for these Error Messages:

There can be several reasons for the above mentioned error messaged like server error, bug in the computer, virus attack, server problem, server failure, problem due to anti-virus, hardware problem, software problem, server failure etc.

Until and unless you get rid of the error messages, you won’t be able to access any of the data that is stored in the PST file. You can go through the following methods in order to access data from the damaged PST file:

Check for the Hardware Errors

In order to check it, first of all close the MS Outlook 2007 go to the Start icon and press Run and type ‘cmd’ and press enter. After this, type chkdsk/f and press enter. After when the disk checking is completed, close the command prompt. Restart the MS Outlook and your problem is solved.

Re-Create the Corrupted PST File

If you are still not able to access the data from the corrupted PST file, then you will have to re create the corrupted PST file. First of all close the Outlook 2007 and start the Windows Explorer.
